About

LILA PLACE began her career in the edit rooms of Woody Allen and Spike Lee. As an editor she’s worked on numerous award-winning films including MINKA and 116 CAMERAS, which was short listed for an Academy Award, directed by Davina Pardo, HARLEY and THE PAWN, by Jean-Cosme Delaloye, FUREVER, by Amy Finkel, and THE ROAD TO REDEMPTION by Jonathan Stack, among many others. She has edited a series of films that were broadcast on PBS for LEARNING MATTERS and has edited for THE UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT FUND and THE UNITED NATIONS WORLD FOOD PROGRAM.

She has also directed several short films, including UNDER THE ROLLER COASTER, which won best short at Slamdance and screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and was broadcast on PBS.

Lila believes that intimate, personal stories can convey powerful, universal themes and that documentaries can be as cinematic and emotionally compelling as fiction.  Her work is influenced by her background in feature films, cultural anthropology, and dance.  Originally from Boston, she received a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Barnard College and an MA in Documentary Film Production from Stanford University.
